Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) is a prevalent psychiatric condition characterized by persistent fear and avoidance of social situations, significantly impairing daily functioning. Conventional treatments, while effective, often carry side effects and limited long-term success. Argentum Nitricum, a widely used homeopathic remedy, is traditionally indicated for managing anxiety-related symptoms, particularly anticipatory anxiety and fear of public performance. Despite its historical use, there remains a scarcity of robust clinical evidence supporting its efficacy.
In this study, we conducted a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial involving 150 participants diagnosed with SAD. Participants were randomly assigned to either the Argentum Nitricum group (Group A) or the placebo group (Group B). Over a 12-week intervention period and an additional 3-month follow-up, symptom severity, avoidance behaviors, and overall quality of life were meticulously assessed using the Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale (LSAS), patient diaries, and the SF-36 Health Survey Questionnaire, respectively.
The results revealed significant reductions in LSAS scores (P=0.032), avoidance behaviors (P=0.041), and improved quality of life (P=0.038) in Group A compared to Group B. Adverse effects were minimal across both groups, indicating the safety of the intervention.
This trial provides empirical evidence supporting the effectiveness of Argentum Nitricum in reducing social anxiety symptoms, minimizing avoidance behaviors, and improving overall quality of life in individuals with SAD.
